International Women's Day is on March 8 and although Rochdale and Tameside both have events planned, in Oldham there seems to be nothing going on. I think this is a shame. We are missing the opportunity to shout about all the fabulous women in enterprise there are in this town.
I have made enquiries with the library about putting on a coffee morning where local women in business could showcase themselves to the public. Unfortunately the library are of the view that it is too short notice to organise anything.
That leaves me with a choice. I can either agree that yes, it is just over two weeks away and that is not enough time. Or, stubborn that I am, I can plough on. I just think it would be a shame to do nothing.
Jo Taylor from the Big Event Company has offered to help me set something up, so I'd like to know what other people (men and women) think? Does anyone have any suggestions or want to get involved in any way?
Or should I just shut up and go away? ;-)
Thanks,
Lisa

I am sure Oldham Council would not want to be shown up next to Tameside and Rochdale, and aside from the library there must be a council venue that would be happy to host FOC and assist. All good PR for the town. I am sure the Chron would support it too. And if you manage to get something set up we can promote via Owl Business News and Owl Marketing social media channels.

Permalink Reply by Julie Crowley on February 20, 2011 at 21:43 We can possibly get the Link Centre - on Tuesday? I could perhaps help too if we do it in the mornning.
I can make enquiries and see about it. We can perhaps get this for free too, depends on what you need.
If we do the library what do you have in mind if we arrange it all?
What are you thinking of doing to shout about it? Chronicle and other papers?
Oldham Council contacts re the business link organisations?
I will think about it and email something if you like.
Permalink Reply by Lisa Gee (Moderator) on February 20, 2011 at 22:16 I was thinking of a coffee morning type event, where local businesswomen could have a table/stand to showcase their products and services, maybe hand out a few freebies. I think it needs to be somewhere that is easily accessible to the public, so that we get plenty of visitors. I'm sure the Chron would cover it and probably the Advertiser and Revolution.
It only occurred to me the other day that we ought to do something. I haven't got a fully formed plan, that is why I opened the discussion. All ideas welcome. The Link Centre wouldn't be my ideal choice, just because it is so quiet down that end of town.
Permalink Reply by Julie Crowley on February 20, 2011 at 22:22 I know its out of the way but they do want to promote it more, so its an option. The hardest will be advertising and
getting people to come and see the event, from my experience. I will try a couple of people too and see what comes up.
