Describe your business
A unique, North West, non profit charity. We aim with the help of the UK wedding industry to give free weddings to people who have a terminal illness, regardless of age, sex, race or religion.

Gift of a Wedding is a distinctive new UK non profit charity, whose aim is to gift wedding services to people who have a terminal prognosis, regardless of age, sex, race or religion.

As a national charity, who is hoping to become “The wedding industry’s charity of choice”, we are looking to promote and protect the physical and mental well being of terminally ill adults in the UK by providing and organising wedding services, with the aim of bringing together the family unit.

The products and services provided by Gift of a Wedding will be free of charge to those whose applications are accepted.  Applicants will be considered under the following criteria: they should be resident in the UK, be over 18 years of age, have an incurable, life- shortening illness and have the desire to marry, but because of their situation are unable to finance or devote the time to organising their wedding.

The idea for Gift of a Wedding came to it's founder Patricia Browne an experienced wedding planner, after she and several other wedding suppliers offered their services free of charge to a young man aged 27 who had recently discovered that he was terminally ill. He was given a prognosis of 18 months.

This experience lead Patricia to conduct some research, where she unfortunately discovered that there were couples all over the UK affected by terminal illness, who were struggling unnecessarily to create their dream day. With such a short time to organise a wedding, these couples only choices was to fundraise, rely on the generosity of family and friends or put an appeal out to the wedding industry.

Having worked in the wedding industry for many years, Patricia was aware of how generous and giving her industry could be, so the solution became clear. There needed to be a group of wedding professionals on standby ready to donate their products and services whenever the need arose.  This spark of an idea led to the creation of Gift of a Wedding which eventually became a reality on 14th February 2012.

Patricia and her and my excellent panel of Trustees, who have experience within the medical field,  charity sector and wedding sectors aspire one day to make sure that all couples affected by terminal illness wishing to get married  get the opportunity to say “I do”.

Should you wish to donate your time or services, please email your details to It would be great if you would also vist our facebook page and like our page if you consider our cause to be a worthy one.
