When does a company need to start thinking about getting an HR department
I’ve just had a discussion with a business in Manchester about when during the growth of a company does it become necessary to think about setting up a Human Resources Department.
Well obviously given what I do, my answer is always going to be on the side of outsourcing but it made me think what are the triggers for making some form of Human Resources department attractive, and why do some companies manage perfectly well without a Human Resources professional on the payroll, and have…

Latest Regional Labour Market Statistics show that although North West unemployment for the last quarter (8%) is slightly above the national average of 7.8%, that there has been a bigger quarterly decrease in the North West (0.5%) than anywhere else in Britain.
Small high growth businesses could be the answer to higher employment in the region,…

Why women absolutely cannot have it all.
I shall start by apologising to those women (and I know there will be some) who disagree with me on this subject, but I am willing to bet you have yet to sample motherhood. I am actually a little tired of hearing that we women can have everything we want in life, if we are only willing to put in the effort. It is simply not true.
Life, if you are trying to combine work and motherhood, is one long series of compromises and sacrifices. Women who choose to make business their priority…

OBN Networking
When I set up KHES Ltd the one thing I didn’t look forward to was the whole sales process. Problem is, without it no business can reach its potential.
There just seems to be something “wrong” about contacting people out of the blue and trying to persuade them to part with their hard earned cash. Yes I believe I am offering a great service, and yes I have no difficulty in explaining how my service can save time and money for businesses so they can more profitable. But when I start…

Guess whos back!
Blog: First day return to a part time position.
Guess whose back!! What did I tell you all! Three weeks later and the office couldn’t cope without me. Piles upon piles of emails, scanning, finances and general paperwork just waiting for me to sort out. So the first day back and it’s a Friday. From my last few entries, Fridays are quiet and slow but because I knew I would have so much work to do to catch up with, it should be a busy, fast, eventful day. Boy was I…

Thank You!
Today is a landmark day for Oldham Business Network. We now have 1000 members signed up and I would just like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank-you to everyone who has played a part in making OBN the success that it is.
Reaching 1000 members is an exciting moment, but to me a more important marker of OBN’s success is that it is such a thriving and very active…

Last day of work experience and no Jaffa cakes (sob)!!
Abi's last day Blog
"Let’s be honest, you don’t have to work somewhere for a long time to start enjoying it or connect with people. I understand the pain of leaving people for a new job role or store as I did it when I was 18 and working at McDonald's and all I did when I found out was cry. But that was different, I wasn’t expecting that, this I was but it’s still pretty upsetting.
As I walked into the office, it was just me and Kieron, well not for long. He left after…
