This morning I walked my son to school (now that's something new I hear you all cry!) but yes I did, there were no time constraints plus no car today so it seemed like such a good idea. It took me 1 hour both ways and what a great start to the day, the dog is extremely happy and after running around the garden too is now resting under my desk as I type.
As I was walking back I followed some teenage girls on their way to school and was taken aback when I saw one of them reaching into her bag all the way along the street and devouring a whole packet of what looked like huge chocolate covered biscuits! Is this teenager eating like this everyday? I hope not but realise that this is what a lot of kids these days do eat and a lot of it is without their parents knowledge. It has made me think about a close friend of mine and her struggles with a family member regarding her eating habits and the lack of power she has once her child leaves the house in the morning. How can we address this problem when parents themselves have no control over what their kids are eating, as teaching your children about nutrition and healthy eating seems to hold no power these days, the junk seems to be taking over.
Obesity is at it's worst in decades and is only increasing which in turn causes a range of other health problems and is increasingly starting with younger people and not just the older generation. Young adults are starting out with a range of problems before their lives have really begun. It is such a sad state of affairs and I have a feeling that things are going to get worse before they get any better.
